South Florida’s newest lawyer referral service, a collaboration between the North Dade Bar Association (NDBA) and Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. (LSGMI), is designed to bridge the gap for individuals who cannot be served by LSGMI.
The Low Fee Referral Service is the brainchild of NDBA President Jason Neufeld, Esq., who has been working with LSGMI to create and promote this new service. All cases referred by LSGMI will be handled on a reduced-fee or contingency basis. Participating attorneys must also agree to provide a free 30 minute consultation.
According to Mr. Neufeld, I have always admired the quality of representation LGSMI provides some of the most disadvantaged in South Florida. I am proud that now, instead of turning away those who do not meet their income threshold, or fall within their case priorities, the North Dade Bar Association can help connect them to quality attorneys.
Lawyers with experience handling cases involving personal injury, wills and estates, mortgage foreclosure defense, and bankruptcies may apply to participate in the referral service. The application can be found on the North Dade Bar Association website: www.northdadebar.com (click on LSGMI Panel Application on the main menu) or click the hyperlink.
Interested lawyers must be in good standing with the Florida Bar, confirm at least $100,000.00 in professional-liability insurance and submit an application along with a check for $500.00 (annual membership) to Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. Lawyer Referral Service, ATTN: Vivian Chavez, 11285 SW 211 Street, Suite 302, Miami, FL 33189.
We are very grateful to the North Dade Bar for offering to collaborate with us to expand access to justice, said LSGMI Executive Director Marcia K. Cypen. Low income people whom we cannot help will now be able to get free advice about their legal problem from a qualified attorney as well as low fee representation when needed, a service which is not currently available to them without a fee.
LSGMI is the largest provider of free civil legal services for the poor in Miami-Dade and Monroe County. Each year LSGMI provides services which benefit more than 30,000 vulnerable members of our community who have nowhere else to turn for help–women, children, seniors, veterans returning from combat, people with disabilities, low wage workers and the homeless who have problems in the areas of tenants’ rights, homeownership, health, income maintenance, employment, special education, tax and consumer rights.Generally, clients must earn an annual income at or below 125% of the federal poverty line. For more information call (305)-576-0080 or visit http://www.lsgmi.org/.
The North Dade Bar Association is one of Florida’s oldest voluntary bar associations. The NDBA seeks to enhance the legal profession by encouraging civic activism and providing a variety of learning and networking opportunities for its membership, including a monthly CLE luncheon with judges and lawyers and quarterly happy hours – usually joint events with other bar associations. Jason Neufeld, a personal injury lawyer based out of Aventura, FL is its current President.
